The 4 wheel drive area just north of Corolla is home to beautiful wild Spanish mustangs that freely roam the area and are protected. The 4 wheel drive area is a 30 minute drive from Chateau de la Mer, don't worry if you don't have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, there are many tour companies that will drive you around to see the wild horses. lighthouses light the way

The Outer Banks is home to some of the most famous lighthouses is the world. Starting with the crown jewel, The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Cape Hatteras is roughly a 1.5 hour drive from Chateau de la Mer and is certainly worth the trip! There are lighthouses that are closer to this home, including The Currituck Beach Lighthouse which is only a 15 minute drive, and also the Bodie Island lighthouse which is about an hour drive. If you love lighthouses, the Outer Banks is a great place to check a few of these wonders off your bucket list.

Discover the place where the Wright Brothers taught the world to fly! The first flight took place on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk after years of research and experimenting.
